UCAS held the opening ceremony for the new academic year at its Yanqihu campus on the morning of Sept. 3.
The ceremony was attended by Bai Chunli, President of CAS and UCAS and was hosted by Deng Yong, Vice Secretary-General of CAS as well as Chairman of the University Council and Executive Vice President of UCAS.
In his speech to over 4,500 teachers and students at the ceremony, Bai offered his congratulations to the 6,061 newly-admitted doctoral students and 7,786 masters tudents, wishing them a successful study life at UCAS.
Bai also presented excellence awards to 15 student representatives for their top performance during the 2012-2013 academic year.
Ding Zhongli, Vice President of CAS and dozens of CAS members also attended the ceremony.
The Yanqihu campus, about 70 kilometers from the downtown, has opened its door to its first group of over 3,000 new students from this new academic year.
The campus, covering an area of over 713,000 square meters and a floor space of more than 360,000 square meters, is expected to accommodate over 10,000 graduate students and over 2,000 teachers as the main campus of UCAS. So far, the western part of the campus, with an area of 184,000 square meters, has come into use.
