Prof. Atta Ur Rahman, President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, visited GUCAS on the afternoon of 12 April, 2012. Prof. Deng Yong, Vice Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chairman of the University Council of GUCAS, met with Prof. Rahman at the Yuquanlu campus of GUCAS.
Prof. Deng warmly welcomed Prof. Rahman to GUCAS. He noted that Pakistan is China's highly respected neighbor. The long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China has become progressively stronger. Since 2004 there have been nearly 100 Pakistani graduate students studying at GUCAS, promoting mutual education and scientific research. GUCAS will continue to welcome Pakistani students, supporting them in every way possible. Prof. Zhu Xiangbin, Assistant President of GUCAS, gave a brief introduction to the guests regarding GUCAS graduate education and a variety of joint PhD programs, highlighting the Sino-Danish Center program.
Prof. Rahman expressed his gratitude for Prof. Deng’s warm welcome. After listening to the introduction, he showed great interest in the GUCAS 2-phase education mode and the Sino-Danish Center program, consulting about the GUCAS curriculum and joint PhD programs for international students. Prof. Rahman spoke of his desire to cooperate with GUCAS in such fields as joint PhD programs, faculty exchanges and Chinese teaching, which was welcomed by Prof. Deng.
Prof. Shi Yaolin, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dr. Ghulam Abbas Miana, General Secretary of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences attended the meeting.
Prof. Rahman held a friendly conversation with Pakistani students at GUCAS following the meeting.
