Author: Update time: 2011-03-02

Professor Bai Chunli, Executive Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and President of the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS), accompanied by Professor Deng Yong, Secretary General of CAS and Executive Vice President of GUCAS, visited the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia from 25 to 26 February, 2011.

While meeting with Professor Choon Fong Shih, President of KAUST, Professor Bai signed an Agreement for the Exchange of Students between GUCAS and KAUST. According to the agreement, both parties will establish a joint training program for exchanging students and conducting related activities on the basis of accepting mutual transfer of credits and co-supervision. Program students will be supported by KAUST to study both at GUCAS and KAUST.

Two academic supervisors will be appointed, one from KAUST and the other from GUCAS. After a student fulfills all credit requirements of both KAUST and GUCAS and defends their dissertation, each Program student will be entitled to apply for a GUCAS degree and a KAUST degree.

KAUST is an international, coeducational, graduate-level research institution in Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, which was opened in September 2009 with a $10 billion endowment from King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. KAUST aims at being a globally renowned graduate research university that makes significant contributions to scientific and technological advancement, and will play a crucial role in the development of Saudi Arabia and the world.
