DENG Yong, PhD of Engineering, professor, was born in Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, in June 1958. He is currently Vice Secretary-General of the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as Executive Vice President, Chairman of University Council and the Legal Representative of the Graduate University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (GUCAS).
In July 1982, Dr. Deng graduated with BS in Mechanics of Solids at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Tsinghua University, where he was awarded with the Excellent Undergraduate Student Medal. He received his PhD degree with the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Medal and the Excellent Doctorate Student Medal in July 1990. Then he was promoted from assistant to professor at Tsinghua University.
Dr. Deng used to serve as Deputy Director of the Office for Graduate Students’ Work and Deputy Director of Education Office for Graduate Students at Tsinghua University.
Supported by Tsinghua University, Dr. Deng studied at the Department of Aeronautics & Aeronautics Engineering, California State University, Long Beach U.S.A, from Feb., 1993 to Dec. 1994.
In Jan. 1995, Dr. Deng was appointed Director of Department of Students Work and Director of Office of Students’ Affairs at Tsinghua University.
Dr. Deng was Vice General Secretary and General Secretary of All-China Students Federation. In Aug. 1998, he was elected as an alternate member of the Central Committee of CCYL.
Since Sep. 2000, Dr. Deng has been appointed Vice President and Chairman of University Council of GUCAS. He also holds the post of the legal representative of GUCAS and performs Executive Vice President duties.
